Neuware.

Chemical Principles - The Quest for Insight

Neuware. The main theme throughout this textbook is to challenge students to think and question, while providing a solid foundation in the principles of chemistry. This seventh edition is written for students of all levels who would benefit from learning how to think, pose questions and tackle problems. Unlike other texts, this title begins with a detailed picture of the atom then builds toward chemistry’s frontier, continually demonstrating how to solve problems, think about nature and matter, and visualize chemical concepts as working chemists do. The authors aim to present readers and instructors with maximum flexibility and digestible chunks, as the content is presented as a series of 85 short topics. Allowing instructors to tailor their course and take a path through the text that matches learning objectives.

Peter Atkins is a fellow of Lincoln College in the University of Oxford and the author of about 70 books for students and a general audience. His texts are market leaders around the globe. A frequent lecturer in the United States and throughout the world, he has held visiting professorships in France, Israel, Japan, China, and New Zealand. He was the founding chairman of the Committee on Chemistry Education of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and was a member of IUPAC's Physical and Biophysical Chemistry Division.
Loretta L. Jones is Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at the University of Northern Colorado. She taught general chemistry there for 16 years and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for 13 years. She earned a BS in honors chemistry from Loyola University, an MS in organic chemistry from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry as well as a D.A. in chemical education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her physical chemistry research used electron paramagnetic resonance to investigate motion in liquids.
Leroy Laverman is a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Washington State University and received his Ph.D. from U.C. Santa Barbara where he worked on ligand exchange reaction mechanisms in metalloporphyrins. He has been teaching chemistry at UCSB since 2000 and continues to instruct students in general chemistry and honors level courses.

Chemical Mutagens - Principles and Methods for Their Detection Volume 3

Verlag
Springer US
Jahr
2012

Neuware. Print on Demand. Lieferbar innerhalb von 7 bis 10 Tagen

The ready acceptance and wide demand for copies of the first two volumes of Chemical Mutagens: Principles and Methods Jar Their Detection have demon strated the need for wider dissemination of information on this timely and urgent subject. Therefore, it was imperative that a third volume be prepared to include more detailed discussions on techniques of some of the methods that were presented from a theoretical point of view in the first two volumes, and to update this rapidly expanding field with current findings and the new developments that have taken place in the past three years. Also included is a special chapter by Dr. Charlotte Auerbach giving the historical background of the discovery of chemical mutagenesis. Methods for recognizing mutagenic compounds in vitro are a necessary preliminary step toward arriving at satisfactory solutions for recognizing significant mutation rates in man, which must be done before our test tube methods of detection can be considered reliable. Two chapters in this volume make important contributions to this problem. Due to the increasing activity in efforts to perfect techniques for detecting chemical mutagens and their effects on man, it is planned to continue this series of volumes as necessary to keep abreast of current findings.

Rubber Chemicals - Second, completely revised and enlarged edition

Neuware. Print on Demand. Lieferbar innerhalb von 7 bis 10 Tagen

The ever increasing number of rubber chemicals that are being introduced has led to an increasing rate of depletion of the first edition of Dr. J. van Alphen's book which so usefully provided chemical names, trade names and the names of suppliers of a very large number of commonly used rubber additives. The need for a revised edition of this valuable book, original edited by "Rubber-Stichting" in 1956 was recognized by Shell International Chemical Company who was ready and willing to sponsor the necessary work to update and extend the contents of the book, preparations of which - following the death of Dr. van Alphen - were already taken in hand by Mr. R. J. Kuipers, at that time a TNO rubber technologist. Unfortunately Mr. Kuipers did not live to see the completion of this work and the Economic Technical Information Centre of the TNO Plastics and Rubber Research Institute was prepared to undertake the extensive task of cataloguing the expanded range of rubber chemicals in the following groups, largely following the original pattern set by Dr. van Alphen. The present book contains the following chapters: peptizing agents vulcanizing agents accelerators activators retarders blowing agents antidegradants co-agents It is gratefully acknowledged that several producers have responded to the request for data and information, so that all chapters are now fully up to date.

Chemical Criminalistics

Neuware. Print on Demand. Lieferbar innerhalb von 7 bis 10 Tagen

In recent years, a number of textbooks on forensic science have been published, most of them directed to two groups, viz. the students of forensic science, and the customers so to say, (prosecutors, police officers, judges, defense lawyers). In this book, while covering fundamental concepts, we try to go a little further and address also active workers in the field of forensic chemistry. This is mainly achieved by relatively nu merous literature references. We hope that they may assist the forensic chemist in penetrating further into the subjects covered in this volume. At the end of most chapters there are examples of actual cases handled at the Swedish National Laboratory of Forensic Science. Many of these cases could, no doubt, have been investigated in greater detail, but they reflect the compromises often necessary for achieving a reasonable turnover. Some parts of the book are quite strongly colored by the personal opinions of the authors. We felt that these passages will give a little more life to the text than in other treatises of a more objective, but possibly duller character. The authors welcome all constructive criticism which will help to improve the book, should there be a second edition.
